With over 1000 pieces of equipment, we have just about anything! Our collection includes basic video cameras, DSLRs, a variety of lenses, microphones, audio recorders, wireless microphones, audio equipment, hard drives, adapters, headphones, projectors, laptops for media use, tablets, GoPro’s, 360º cameras, and so much more!

We haven’t even told you the best part: everything (for the most part) is reservable online! With the exception of tripods, cables, adapters, and other miscellaneous equipment pieces, you can book everything online.

Terms and Conditions

Loan Agreement:

  • You may check out equipment for up to 3 days (if available). Laptops and hard drives for 14 days. 
  • Renewals are not automatic: you must check with the Media Center to extend reservations and renew equipment. 
  • Reservations that are not picked up on time will be made available to other patrons.
  • Requests for more than two items of the same kind require approval from a media operations supervisor. (For example, 2 DSLRs, 2 microphones, etc). No more than 6 total items may be checked out to one person at the same time.
  • A valid W&M ID is required to check out equipment and must be presented at time of checkout.
  • The preferred way to book equipment is via our online booking system at: https://libcal.swem.wm.edu
  • Equipment is available to currently enrolled W&M students, staff and faculty. Priority is for patrons using the equipment for course purposes.
  • We don’t provide disposable accessories such as batteries — you have to provide these yourself - Most items do come with rechargeable batteries. 
  • Equipment is available on a first come, first served basis. Equipment can be renewed one time if others are not waiting for the equipment.
  • Equipment must be directly returned to the Reeder Media service desk. 
  • You are responsible for the equipment at all times while it is checked out to you. Fines and fees apply for late, damaged, lost, or stolen equipment.
  • The Library reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who abuses equipment or is repeatedly or extremely late in returning equipment.
  • Equipment must be picked up by patron who made the booking.
  • While Media Center employees are responsible for inspection of equipment during check-out and check-in, it is the also the expectation and responsibility of the individual borrowing the equipment to check equipment for damage and/or missing pieces BEFORE leaving AND to report missing and damaged equipment upon return.“Inspection” should include:
  • General condition of the equipment.  Presence of equipment and accessories as indicated.
  • Overdue equipment will be subject to a fine of $5 per hour. Items 10 days late or more will be considered lost and a replacement fee will be charged. A bill will be sent to to the Bursar's Office and your library account will be blocked until you pay the replacement costs at the Bursar's Office. 
  • When fines accrue to $100, users will be unable to book equipment until fine is resolved. 

Borrower Responsibilities: 

  • Assume full responsibility for this equipment during the time it is checked out to me
  • Use this equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Reimburse Swem Library for any damage to or loss of the equipment while it is checked out to me. Charges will be based on replacement costs.
  • Not leave the equipment unattended or allow others to use the equipment while it is checked out to you.
