Digitization & Reformatting Services

Video Clip Service

Why use this service?

It will save you time. Combining related video clips onto one DVD makes in-class screening seamless and convenient. We can also upload clips directly into your Blackboard site. If Swem owns the video, we can process your request in about a week. If we don't own it, we can order it for you. You can request clips online through our reserves form, or visit the Media Center desk. This service is for instructors only (faculty or graduate students).

Note: This service is intended for short scenes only, not entire works. Video clips are provided for internal teaching, research, and educational uses only, not for external distribution.

Notice Regarding Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

Copyright Guidance

The Center for Media and Social Impact provides several articles on copyright and fair use:

The Association of Research Libraries Code of Best Practices documents agreed-upon guidelines for academic and research communities.
