The Stephens Project Oral Histories
Established in memory of Stephen H. Snell and Stephen E. Patrick, the Stephens Project seeks to document the stories of the lives of William & Mary LGBTQ+ alumni, faculty, staff, and students. It is a long range (multi-year) oral history project coordinated by William & Mary Libraries, which will record the personal experiences of individuals while concentrating on their years at or associated with William & Mary. The project will focus on memories related to William & Mary and their impact on later life. This includes descriptions of queer life and community during their time at William & Mary, coming out stories, the impact of being queer at William & Mary, experiences related to the Crim Dell Association (formerly William & Mary GALA, Inc.) as well as student, faculty and staff groups, and other memories.

LGBTQ+ Zines in Special Collections
One of our more recent collecting areas, the Zines collection has already grown to more than 400 zines, or self-published works, released in small editions that embrace DIY (do-it-yourself) techniques. Zine authors write with the mindset of sharing their thoughts, feelings, creativity, experience or knowledge with others rather than making a profit. Topics of the often-illustrated works range from social justice issues to life with canine companions, and from poetry to comics. View our guide to zines in Special Collections, where LGBTQ+ zines are a featured category, and browse our collection in the library catalog.
Gay and Lesbian Archives
The Gay and Lesbian Archives are a collection of letters, pamphlets, and ephemera donated by the Gay and Lesbian Archives of Falls Church, Virginia, documents community organization, the Whitman-Walker Clinic.
