Bring your four-legged friends to a tail-wagging celebration of Special Collections’ Chapin-Horowitz Dog Book Collection, the second largest collection of books about dogs in the United States. We’re opening our Reading Room for a full day of literary exploration and activities, with librarians and archivists on hand for chin scritches and belly rubs.
Event Schedule April 1st, 2023
- 9am - Zine Workshop with Author Diamond the Dog
Special guest barker Diamond will lead a zine workshop where they’ll share their experiences writing and illustrating their seminal work, "Diamond's first photo book". Materials will be provided for participants and their humans to create their own personal zines to take home and chew on.
-
Noon - Break for Treats
Sample dog biscuits made by library staff from the recipe books "Bone appétit", "Wee paws in the kitchen", and "Feed Me".
- 1pm - Peter Chapin Look-Alike Contest
Bring your best-in-show game and compete to win the coveted Peter Chapin Look-Alike trophy. All breeds are welcome - not just cocker spaniels!
- 2:30pm - Knitting with Dog Hair Live Demo
Stop by for a quick brush and donate some fur. Students from Swem’s Makerspace will be spinning and knitting a scarf using Kendall Crolius' and Anne Black Montgomery’s "Knitting with Dog Hair" as a guide.
We hope to see you there! And remember to leave your human at the door—this event is for dogs only! (It's also an April Fools' Day joke - for the safety of our collections, we sadly cannot allow pets in the Reading Room).
