In this post, we introduce W&M Libraries' new circulation reserves and student supervisor!
What does your job entail?
I process professors’ reserve materials and manage the student workers in Swem Library.
What interests you most about this job?
The students and the staff. I like working with people - getting to know them, listening to their interests, and building relationships have been the foundations of my professional life. I spent the last nine years as a part of the circulation team within a busy public library in Pennsylvania and loved getting to know both the patrons and staff there, so I am excited to do the same here at Swem.
What do you hope to accomplish in your first year?
My first goals are to familiarize myself with William & Mary and Swem Library and master the intricacies of my position. Even though there is a lot of cross-over between the worlds of public libraries and academic libraries I still have a lot to learn!
Tell us a little about your work background:
I’ve worked in public and elementary school libraries for almost 10 years now. During most of that time I also worked as a one-on-one that supplied behavioral support to children on the Autism spectrum. As a public library employee, I provided customer service to our patrons and helped to support members of the circulation team.
What attracted you to W&M?
Initially, the campus! I visited Williamsburg several times, and after deciding to move to the area, I immediately started looking for open library positions within William & Mary. I thought it seemed like a welcoming organization. After completing the application process, I realized that my initial impression was correct, which made me more excited at the prospect of being employed by William & Mary.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I like to read, watch bad movies, and enjoy the outdoors. My husband and I are in a transitional state right now. As we settle into the area I’m hoping to purchase a home soon, and when we do I plan on filling it with about 20 house plants that made the move with us from Pennsylvania!
