The Interlibrary Loan staff will go to great lengths to get what you want--at no cost to you!! Every year, our Interlibrary Loan Department (aka "ILL") obtains thousands of books and articles from other libraries for the William & Mary community. We rely on the cooperative efforts and good will of libraries statewide, nationally, and all over the world. In return, we also provide an even greater number books and articles from our own collection to other libraries. Five staff members and a crew of student assistants work to make it happen. Basically, we can borrow just about anything you'll need for your research. If there's something not available here at William & Mary we can usually get it for you from another library. Most books arrive within a week; articles often arrive within 2-3 days. Contemporary or historical--we'll give it a shot. We've managed to get articles so new they've not yet been published! 18th-century French manuscripts? Piece of cake.
ILLiad is the program we use to process requests. Once you've set up your ILLiad account, you can submit requests, track their progress, and even view/download electronically received articles. If you have any difficulties or questions regarding interlibrary loan or your ILLiad account, please call the office at 221-3089, email us at sweill@wm.edu, or just stop by and say “Hi!” We are located on the ground floor of Swem next to the Copy Center and are open between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.
