The Earl Gregg Swem Library is now accepting proposals for Swem Library Collection Grants for 2014-15.
Swem will award multiple grants, each up to $3,000, to faculty members for the purpose of enhancing and diversifying the Swem Library collection. Areas of the collection that have been identified through collection evaluation, and discussions with departments as needing particular attention for new areas of study, will have priority. Materials purchased will directly support William & Mary curriculum and programs. Materials requested may be for one course, a program, or a general subject area.
To create a proposal that includes a list of the items for the library to purchase, work with a library liaison. Accurate pricing information along with a brief narrative explaining how the selections would support the curriculum, benefit students, address gaps, and enhance the current collection should be included. All types of materials are appropriate for the library, including books, scores, DVDs, Special Collections materials, etc.
Funds will be awarded based on the quality of the items, the potential for campus-wide interest, the number of students and faculty who will benefit from the materials, and the needs of the library collection. The deadline to submit applications is October 31, 2014. Contact Don Welsh, Head of Research Services, with any questions you may have. Winners will be announced in December 2014.
