W&M Libraries has initiated an extensive and exciting project to digitize W&M masters theses and doctoral dissertations. The Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) retrospective conversion project will place more than 5,000 digitized theses and dissertations dating back to the 1920s into the university's institutional repository, ScholarWorks.
Although many theses and dissertations are available in ProQuest’s Dissertations & Theses Global database, they are currently unavailable to those who do not have access through an academic institution or who cannot afford a subscription to the ProQuest database. The ETD project aims to promote global access to these works and recognition of the university’s extensive intellectual output, as well as to dramatically increase W&M visibility.
“This an opportunity for William & Mary graduates to achieve an even greater impact on global scholarship,” said Marian Taliaferro, digital scholarship librarian.
All authors will retain ownership of their content and can choose to restrict access to on-campus only. If you have written a master’s thesis or dissertation between 1920-2015 -- in 2016 the library moved to accepting only digital copies -- and would like to opt out of the project by restricting access to on-campus only access, please fill out a brief online form or contact William & Mary’s ETD team at scholarworks@wm.edu.
