W&M Press’ Euripides’ Alcestis Celebrated for Affordability in Library Publishing Showcase Week

The William & Mary Press book Euripides’ Alcestis: Translation with Introduction, Notes, and Essay was one of nearly 40 projects highlighted by the Library Publishing Coalition (LPC) during the inaugural Library Publishing Showcase Week, held February 23–27, 2026. The week-long celebration showcases the creativity, innovation, and impact of library publishing programs. Three books published by W&M Press are featured in different categories throughout the week.

Euripides’ Alcestis, a fifth-century Greek tragedy, explores the themes of love, friendship, sacrifice, and the fragility of life. This translation, Euripides’ Alcestis: Translation with Introduction, Notes, and Essay by former W&M Provost Michael R. Halleran, offers readers a clear and contemporary version of the play, with context-giving notes, along with an overall interpretative essay on the play. The book has become an important and affordable course resource. It was featured as part of Publications and Programs/Cost Savings category, which highlights how library publishing offers cost savings through open access projects. Library Publishing Showcase Week highlights how library publishing supports authors, students, researchers, and scholarly communities. Participants featured by LPC were selected from submissions across the LPC community, reflecting the breadth of innovative work in library publishing. The week coincided with the launch of the new library publishing advocacy website, Library Publishing Creates, which hosts Library Publishing Showcase Week content and will continue as a hub for resources and inspiration across the LPC community and beyond.
