2025 Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) in Montréal

Lecture hall full of participants on the opening day of DHSI 2024, week 2

Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) 2025

May 26-30, 2025 on-campus (week 1) | June 2-6, 2025 on-campus (week 2)

William & Mary Libraries are pleased to provide funding to cover the registration costs for up to 5 faculty and graduate students interested in attending the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI). DHSI provides an ideal environment for discussing and learning about new computing technologies and how they are influencing teaching, research, dissemination, creation, and preservation in different disciplines, via a community-based approach.

A time of intensive coursework, seminars, and lectures, participants at DHSI share ideas and methods, and develop expertise in using advanced technologies. Every summer, the institute brings together faculty, staff, and students from the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Library, and Archives communities as well as independent scholars and participants from areas beyond.

This year DHSI is moving to the University of Montréal, after 21 years at the University of Victoria. We hope that the closer proximity makes this an easier opportunity to attend for our William & Mary community.

Important Notes:

  • Successful applicants will be awarded a code for free registration for ONE course. (A DHSI course runs daily for the duration of a week, so only one course can be taken at a time).
  • The registration code does not include travel or lodging expenses. Selected applicants will need to find separate funding for those costs.
  • The Institute offers courses for any skill level. “Foundations” courses are appropriate for those new to Digital Humanities, requiring only a basic knowledge of computing tools and methods. Some offerings have specific requisite skills and/or expectations and, in such cases, these are outlined in course description.
  • DHSI takes place on the University of Montréal campus, and is offered via U Montréal's Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur les humanites numeriques (CRIHN)
  • Consult this list of courses being offered each week when filling out your application.

To apply, please submit this application by 5:00pm on Friday, January 31, 2025.

Decisions will be emailed by 5pm on Friday, February 7, 2025.
