Why does William & Mary need my annual support?
Although William & Mary is a public school, state assistance covers less than 11 percent of our operating budget. That is down from 27.8% in 2000 and 18.7% in 2005. Private gifts from members of the university’s close-knit community, like you, provide vital resources. From our academic environment to world-renowned professors to state-of-the-art facilities, private support sustains the William & Mary experience.
If I can only afford a small gift to W&M Libraries, will it make a difference?
Absolutely! Your gift to W&M Libraries, in any amount, makes a real difference: 10 gifts of $10 ($100) provide five books for students through interlibrary loan; two gifts of $250 ($500) can supply exhibit supplies for the year; and one gift of $1,000 can rehouse 10 linear feet of manuscript collections in the Special Collections Research Center.
I can’t afford to make the annual gift I’d really like to make right now. Can I give monthly?
Yes. Your contributions to W&M Libraries can be broken up into affordable monthly installments that will fit into any budget. By signing up for monthly giving at William & Mary, your ongoing support can have an immediate impact.
Is the university a good steward of its resources?
Yes. William & Mary has consistently ranked as one of the most efficient universities in the nation in terms of the use of resources. Boasting the highest graduation rate among public research universities (The Chronicle of Higher Education, 2017), the university ranked 5th for its faculty (U.S. News & World Report, 2020), 6th for its libraries (The Princeton Review, 2023), and 40th overall (U.S. News & World Report, 2020). Despite these high marks, however, U.S. News & World Report ranks William & Mary 110th in terms of financial resources in 2020, proving that the university allocates its resources effectively.
