In this post, we introduce W&M Libraries' new acquisitions assistant, Jennifer Forbes!
Name: Jennifer Forbes
Title: Acquisitions Assistant
What does your job entail?
I am responsible for purchasing items to be added to our collection.
What interests you most about this job?
I love that I have an opportunity to help build a diverse library collection. I enjoy being able to see what the Tribe is reading and broaden my literary horizons as well. I am excited to make sure students, faculty, and staff receive their requests as quickly as possible.
What do you hope to accomplish in your first year?
In my first year, I hope to learn as much information as I can to guarantee members of our Tribe are receiving the materials they need to become successful individuals.
Tell us a little about your work background:
I started as a student library worker at Regent University. After, I spent some time in marketing and helping build a digital library while living in China. I then spent a couple years working at Suffolk Public Library. I am about to complete my Master's in Information and Library Science, and now, I have found myself here at W&M.
What attracted you to W&M?
W&M was actually recommended to me by multiple colleagues and friends. I grew up in Hampton Roads but had a limited perspective of W&M. I focused more on the history of the college instead of taking the time to understand how W&M has grown. I am extremely blessed I found myself working in such a welcoming and diverse environment.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Pre-Covid I loved to travel. My favorite places were Thailand and Hong Kong. Now I spend time discovering local hidden gems. I also love crafting and learning how to stop killing my plants.
